Rector of Accra Polytechnic Prof. Sylvester Achio has promised students with the Hotel Catering and Institutional Management Department that Management is thinking of a way to support and cushion them when it comes to undertaking their practical assignment in their area of specialization.
According to the Rector “I know it’s very expensive to carry out such practical assignments” he said.
This was disclosed at a mini function organised by HCIM Department for students to showcase their practical knowledge and skills in food preparation at the school’s auditorium here in Accra.
The USA Rice representative for Ghana, Mr. Daniel Ansong also assured students with the Hotel Catering and Institutional Management Department of a new ultra-modern kitchen for them to undertake their practical works.
“The long standing relationship between the Department and the USA Rice group has been a beneficial one to both the institution and the U.S rice group” he said. He revealed that the U.S group is planning to organize another Polytechnic cooking competition.
Mrs. Vida Doku, Head of Department of the HCIM explained the purpose of the occasion saying “such opportunities are created for students to enable them exhibit their skills in diverse ways by way of the hands-on training which is the ultimate aim of our training”.
The Department in collaboration with the USA rice group used the opportunity to launch a Recipes Book, a book which will guide students on how to prepare different kinds of rice dishes.
The function` was organised under the theme, “Carved Buffet Lunch for Book Launch”.
As part of the assessment process, visitors and invited guests who were at the programme were presented with evaluation forms for them to make their impressions on the students’ performance known.
